Speaking of Time, Safety and Happiness–3/10/2016

Good morning and welcome back!!!!!

spring forward

For most Americans, daylight saving time 2015 ends at 2 a.m.Sunday morning, when most states spring AHEAD an hour.

The federal government doesn’t require U.S. states or territories to observe daylight saving time, which is why residents of Arizona, Hawaii,  Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Marianas Islands don’t need to change their clocks on Sunday.

This is a very controversial topic.  Many people look at it as an inconvenience, unnecessary and just a pain in the backside.

Others welcome it, and wish it would last year round. I would be on this side of the table. For me the more daylight the better. I love a bit of extra evening sunshine.

So, don’t get to church or to work an hour late?  Change those clocks and alarms and while you are at it, change the CO2 and the smoke alarm batteries!!!! Better to be safe!!!

Oh, and if you remember, will you really feel that you missed an hour of sleep?

Although, those of you who have babies in the house– their physiological clocks are the only thing that matter to them and if they are hungry no clock is going to change that feeling, and if you put them to bed at their normal time chances are very good they will be up at their normal time, although it will look on the clock like it is an hour later than usual!!!!

Enjoy the Spring….You will be Falling Back on Sunday, November 6, 2016!!!!!!!

Where have the last three years gone?????????????  Seriously, it has been three years since I have posted, here, but I am back and enjoying this, again.

Over the last three years, I have dealt with a very painful knee, got it replaced, did all the therapy I was told to do and now, that knee is like brand new….feeling very grateful for that.

Then, I got really, really busy with Dance Studios recruiting my work, and then costumes, costumes and more costumes, as well as memory and memorial quilts and pillows from loved ones’ shirts, and baby items, etc. in addition to all the usual alterations.  The best and most important thing that has happened over the last three years is three weeks ago, today, I was blessed with another grandmiracle!  Alton has the cutest little dimples….I am madly in love, all over again and so blessed to be well, happy and have all these grandmiracles.

So, what have you all been up to for the last three years???

Thank you, for being here and I hope you will leave a comment and continue to follow because I am back to stay, God willing!

I will be posting pics of recent work and also taking orders, of course, of anything you can possibly think of, because we all know, If YOU can imagine it; I can make it!   So, if there is something you have been searching for, thinking of, wishing you could find, let’s talk.  Leave a comment, or email me at slavetomyneedles@comcast.net

Happy Spring….go forward and be productive!

Halloween Orders are flying out of here! 08/27/2013

Today, I made two overalls for Halloween.  Two little brothers going on a cruise wanted the blue minion overalls from Despicable Me. Mom didn’t need the mask or head gear and already has the yellow shirt, etc.

They will ship out tomorrow morning!

Now, it isn’t quite September 1st yet, but if you have something in mind do not think it is too early to order.  Don’t be the one wishing you had ordered earlier….we might need to allow for shipping of the fabric, then the creating time, then shipping to you and there may be others ahead of you…

What do you, or your kids or your family want to be for Halloween?

I am going as a tired gramma with pin pricks in my fingertips.  HaHaHa!!!!!

Have a wonderful week everyone. I’ll be waiting to hear from you.

Oh, did you forget to look for the ‘x’ in my shop?  Check the previous post and then go look for it….It is an easy $10, after all.

Have You Met This Artist? 05/14/2012

Today I want to introduce you to a very sweet lady from Chicago! Vanessa Uttaro and her etsy shop The big city Bumpkin! She makes the cutest map necklaces ever!!!

But here is Vanessa in her own words:

Anyone who creates or crafts knows what it means to get the itch — you’ve been idle or stagnant for too long, and you don’t just WANT to create something, you NEED to create something, anything!  As a seasonal employee at Wrigley Field, I have long off-season to do exactly that, but I had reached a point in my creative journey that felt like a dead-end.  I didn’t know what to make, any more, I just knew that I had to do something.

One laundry night, as I was sifting through our apartment buildings “giveaway table” (where tenants leave things they can’t use any more for other tenants to take), I found this neat laminated map of Chicago.  It got me thinking about all of the different neighbourhoods in the city, and how people love to represent where they’re from, and I had a “Wouldn’t it be neat…?” moment.  I thought it would be so cool to wear your neighbourhood on a necklace, but this was an all new arena for me — I had never really made jewelry before!  I went to a craft store the next morning to see what I could find, and picked up a few bezels and some epoxy resin, and got to work.  The first few pendants were rough  – cool, but rough — and that particular craft store was going to make me go bankrupt if I kept buying my supplies there, so I ran to Etsy.com.  I found a fellow crafter who sold supplies, and took the leap of faith and ordered 25 pendant frames.  Believe me, it was a leap, because I had about $30 to my name at the time!
I couldn’t believe how quickly these pendants took off!  People all over the city, and even in other cities, loved them, and started requesting custom pieces.  After one big order of custom key-chains for a customer in Southern Illinois, I was able to start investing my profits back into the “business”, and building up a stock of different maps and styles of pendants.
I’ve only been at it for about two months, but the feedback has been fantastic!  I started a Facebook fan page (facebook.com/thebigcitybumpkin), where I met the lovely host of this blog.  🙂  I’m planning on doing a big craft show in Chicago this Autumn.  My boyfriend even got in on the fun, and we’ve started making Official Game Used Major League Baseball pendants, with balls hit out of Wrigley Field that he catches on the street!  You can find my pendants at thebigcitybumpkin.etsy.com, and in auctions on tophatter.com.  Oh, and I’m on Twitter @vuttaro, and I blog at thebigcitybumpkin.blogspot.com  Phew!
I’m back at work now, so most of my time making the pendants is on the weekends, but it’s so great to see the feedback I’m getting, and I can’t wait to see how this project will grow over the next year!

Welcome to Slave To My Needles…

This is a brand new blog for me as I am brand new to blogging since March and have only done it for Blooming Sisters . I have created this blog in order to keep you up to date on what’s happening with my studio at the soon-to-launch handmade venue Lotus Made.  In addition, I plan to throw little tid bits of personal stuff in here as well, and a ‘For Sale’ page.

As you can see, there is a link to my Flickr account to the right in the sidebar.  When you click on ‘more pictures’ it will bring you directly to my photostream….Everything you see in there has been made at one point or another for clients, family and/or friends and can be made again in fabric/color/and/or size you wish…

I welcome custom orders.  I have been sewing for over 35 years.  My most favorite works are infant, toddler and little girls’ items, as well as nursery bedding, memory/memorial quilts, home decor and costumes.  I am happy to do formal wear as well.  Actually, If You Can Imagine It; I Can Make It!  So, let’s talk. 🙂

On the personal side; I am a married (for 32 years), mother of four, and gramma, or namma depending on who you ask of 9 grandmiracles.  I have worked in the medical field most of my life and sewing was a hobby for me.  About four years ago, I  was having trouble getting through a full shift on my feet so, I cut back to part time and even that was causing an awful lot of pain, so I decided to work at home doing what I absolutely love….SEWING!!!!!

I signed on to a Custom Made component of a hand-made selling venue and did quite well until they took the custom made part of it away almost a year ago.

Then, I had a friend who decided she really wanted to create her own venue and asked if I would be the Project Manager….well, of course I said, ‘yes.’  We gathered a few more people to join us…all very talented and highly skilled people with awesome personalities and we brainstormed till we came up with Lotus Made as the name because these thoughts made it absolutely perfect!!!!! (Just as the elegant and beautiful Lotus Flower emerges from the rich mud into a glorious creation, so do we create from deep within our imaginations, where ideas flit from here to there until they are formed into a unique creation by the vision of the artist). Pretty neat, huh?  Now, we are eight people on the development team and we prefer to call ourselves ‘sisters.’  Hence, Blooming Sisters for our blog.  Please, feel free to go to our blog and check it out.  While you are busy doing that and sharing this with your friends, I am off to do some work, here at home and for Lotus Made and Blooming Sisters.

Thanks for visiting and please, subscribe so you don’t miss one little update about everything that is blossoming, everywhere!!!!

Be back soon!!!!
